Now Available: 2024/2025 Iowa OER Annual Report

The Iowa Open Education Action Team is pleased to announce the release of our 2024/2025 Annual Report! The report includes the findings from our annual survey, which was sent to all Iowa colleges and universities earlier this spring. In addition to these findings, the report also includes a summary of the action team’s recent work to support open education initiatives in Iowa.

The major outcomes of this year’s report include:

  1. Students saved over $9.5 million thanks to the use of open educational resources (OER) across Iowa colleges and universities during the 2024/2025 academic year.
  2. High-level initiatives in support of OER are growing, but funding and staff capacity remain areas of need, particularly for smaller institutions and those without dedicated support staff.
  3. Colleges and universities require training and support to develop sustainable OER initiatives that are responsive to the needs of educators and students.

In addition to these findings, our report shares some of the work that our team has accomplished over the last year.

For example, we have launched a new recognition opportunity, the Iowa OER Awards to uplift educators across the state who are supporting a more affordable and engaging educational experience for students through the use of open educational resources and practices. Projects like this and others are detailed in the full report.

Past reports can be accessed through the Iowa OER Toolkit in Google Drive.
